ON THE CLOUD (OTC) - 16 DAY TOUR
(Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Lhasa, Guilin, Shanghai)
Itinerary and Departure Dates and Fares:
Day 1. Saturday. USA/Beijing.
Your tour departs from Los Angeles about mid-day and you will head across the Pacific Ocean to Beijing, the illustrious capital city of China. Spend the night aboard your trans-Pacific flight as you cross the International Date Line.
Day 2. Sunday. Beijing. (IM).
You arrive in Beijing, one of the largest cities in China, in the late afternoon. There, you will be escorted to a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 3. Monday. Beijing. (AB, L, D).
Your highlight today will be a visit to the awe-inspiring Great Wall, a formidable symbol of ancient Chinese civilization. You will also visit the solemn Ming Tombs, the burial place for the 13 Ming Dynasty emperors. The tour continues with a wonderful stroll down the renowned Sacred Way, the formal entrance to the Ming Tombs. Attend a delicious Peking Duck banquet in the evening.
Day 4. Tuesday. Beijing. (AB, L, D).
Morning sightseeing features the infamous Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square. Next, you will stroll through the fabulous Forbidden City, the residence of emperors for more than 500 years. In the afternoon, you will tour the beautiful Temple of Heaven where, during the last Ming and Qing Dynasties, the emperors prayed for good harvests. A tour to the Summer Palace on Kunming Lake is another highlight of the day.
Day 5. Wednesday. Beijing/Xi’an. (AB, L, D).
In the morning, you will take a domestic flight to Xi’an, the historic, ancient capital of China. Upon arrival, you will visit a quaint farming village and mingle with the local residents. Next, a trip to Xi-an’s ancient Grand City Wall. You will also visit a free market, and do some shopping with the locals. After dinner, check in at a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 6. Thursday. Xi’an. (AB, L, D).
A full day’s tour will help you to recall the glories of ancient Xi’an as you visit a burial site containing an incredible army of 8,000 lifelike terra-cotta soldiers. You will also see the 6000 year-old ancient Banpo Neolithic Village. In the evening, you will enjoy two specialties, a delectable Xi’an Dumpling Dinner and a wonderful Tang Dynasty Show at the renowned Shaanxi Grand Song and Dance Theatre.
Day 7. Friday. Xi'an/Chengdu. (AB, L, D).
Today you fly to Chengdu, an ancient city in the heart of China's richest agricultural province, Sichuan. Visit the Chengdu Zoo, where you can enjoy a world famous Panda display. In the evening, you check in at a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 8. Saturday. Chengdu/Lhasa. (AB, L, D).
You will take a morning flight to Lhasa, the world's highest city, also known as the "City of Sunshine." After you are checked in at the Lhasa Hotel, you will spend the balance of the day relaxing and acclimatizing to the altitude.
Day 9. Sunday. Lhasa. (AB, L, D).
Today, your sightseeing highlight is a visit to the Dalai Lama's Potala Palace, which sits atop the sacred Putuo Hill. In the afternoon, you will visit Norblinka, once the Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama. At dinner, you will enjoy serenades by Tibetan musicians while feasting on local cuisine.
Day 10. Monday. Lhasa. (AB, L, D).
Your all day tour includes visits to the extraordinary 1,300-year-old Jokhang Temple with its Buddhist masterpieces, as well as the Drepung Monastery.
Day 11. Tuesday. Lhasa/Chengdu/Guilin. (AB, L, D).
You will take a morning flight to Chengdu, and then a connecting flight to Guilin in the afternoon. Your lodging in Guilin will be at a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 12. Wednesday. Guilin. (AB, L, D).
Today you will travel by deluxe motor coach through the lush countryside surrounding Guilin. During your trip, you will see bamboo trees, water chestnut trees, sugarcane and rice fields. You will arrive at a local village and from there you will embark on a memorable Lijiang River cruise, passing through scenic Yangshuo. After the cruise, you will visit a local free market, Finally, you will return to Guilin for a satisfying dinner.
Day 13. Thursday. Guilin/Shanghai. (AB, L, D).
Early in the morning, you will explore the arresting topography of Guilin, including Elephant Trunk Hill, Fubo Hill, and Reed Flute Cave. After seeing those wondrous sights, we will take a domestic flight to the city of Shanghai and check in at a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 14. Friday. Shanghai. (AB, L, D).
Your tour today includes the very best that Shanghai has to offer. You will start with a tour of the historic, architectural marvels on the Bund, and the emporium-lined Nanjing Road. Next, you will wander through the solemn, peaceful grounds of the Yu Yuan Garden, and see its famous zigzag bridges, knolls and rock formations. Finally, you will take a trip to the Jade Buddha Temple, which displays the world's largest Jade Buddha, and visit a Children’s Palace. In the evening, you will attend the world famous Shanghai Acrobatic Show.
Day 15. Sarurday. Shanghai. (AB).
The full day is yours at leisure after breakfast. Enjoy shopping in the local markets and doing some sightseeing, or maybe a little people watching.
Day 16. Sunday. Shanghai/USA. (AB).
Today you will board your trans-Pacific flight back to the United States. You will take home many wonderful memories of China.
