BEYOND THE CLOUD (BTC) - 18 DAY TOUR
(Beijing, Xi’an, Kunming, Dali, Lijing, Guiyang, Guilin, Shanghai)
Itinerary and Departure Dates and Fares:
Day 1. Friday. USA/Beijing.
Your tour departs from Los Angeles about mid-day and you will head across the Pacific Ocean to Beijing, the illustrious capital city of China. Spend the night aboard your trans-Pacific flight as you cross the International Date Line.
Day 2. Saturday. Beijing. (IM).
You arrive in Beijing, one of the largest cities in China, in the late afternoon. There, you will be escorted to a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 3. Sunday. Beijing. (AB, L, D).
Your highlight today will be a visit to the awe-inspiring Great Wall, a formidable symbol of ancient Chinese civilization. You will also visit the solemn Ming Tombs, the burial place for the 13 Ming Dynasty emperors. The tour continues with a wonderful stroll down the renowned Sacred Way, the formal entrance to the Ming Tombs. Attend a delicious Peking Duck banquet in the evening.
Day 4. Monday. Beijing. (AB, L, D).
Morning sightseeing features the infamous Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square. Next, you will stroll through the fabulous Forbidden City, the residence of emperors for more than 500 years. In the afternoon, you will tour the beautiful Temple of Heaven where, during the last Ming and Qing Dynasties, the emperors prayed for good harvests. A tour to the Summer Palace on Kunming Lake is another highlight of the day.
Day 5. Tuesday. Beijing/Xi'an. (AB, L, D).
In the morning, you will take a domestic flight to Xi’an, the historic, ancient capital of China. Upon arrival, you will visit Xi-an’s ancient Grand City Wall. You will also visit the historic Wild Goose Pagoda. After dinner, check in at a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 6. Wednesday. Xi'an. (AB, L, D).
A full day’s tour will help you to recall the glories of ancient Xi’an as you visit a burial site containing an incredible army of 8,000 lifelike terra-cotta soldiers. You will also see the 6000 year-old ancient Banpo Neolithic Village. In the evening, you will enjoy two specialties, a delectable Xi’an Dumpling Dinner and a wonderful Tang Dynasty Show at the renowned Shaanxi Grand Song and Dance Theatre.
Day 7. Thursday. Xi'an/Kunming. (AB, L, D).
Fly to Kunming in the morning, the “Spring City” of China. Located on the east edge of the Tibet Plateau, Kunming is accompanied by warm weather year round. In the afternoon, you will climb the Western Hills where you will find both Taoist and Buddhism temples. A very beautiful lake view of the Dianchi Lake comes into sight while you are on the top of the Dragon Hills Gate. On the way down, you will visit the Huating Temple, containing 500 sculptures of the disciples of the Buddha. In the evening, you will check in at a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 8. Friday. Kunming. (AB, L, D).
A full day excursion takes you to the Stone Forest, one of the natural wonders of the area, and a typical Karstic Landscape. On the way, you will enjoy a visit to a typical Chinese village and meet the local people.
Day 9. Saturday. Kunming/Dali. (AB, L, D).
You will take an early flight to Dali, an important stop on the Yunnan-Tibetan Highway. After arrival, you will check in at a local four- or five-star hotel. In the afternoon, you will take a cruise on the Erhai Lake and have a chance to taste the Three-Course Tea of the Bai people. The famous crystal blue lake and the green mountain range nearby are part of a famous Chinese painting. You will view the ancient Three Pagodas, built 1,300 years ago. After dinner, you will have time for a leisurely stroll in Old Town.
Day 10. Sunday. Dali/Lijiang. (AB, L, D).
Today, you will travel to Lijiang by deluxe motor coach. Linijiang, bordering Tibet, is a small town with a spectacular mountain backdrop. Along the way, enjoy the breathtaking scenery. You will check in at a local four- or five-star hotel. After lunch, you will visit the Black Dragon Pond, and the Dongba Culture Exhibition Museum, which presents the Dongba Pictographic Characters and Naxi Culture. This visit will give you an idea of the mysterious culture of the Naxi nationalities, some of which still use the matriarchal social system. In the late afternoon, you will visit the ancient Town of Dayan.
Day 11. Monday. Lijiang/Kunming. (AB, L, D).
A whole day tour starts with a visit to Yufeng Si, a traditional Lamasery famous for its 1000-year-old Camellia Tree. You will visit the Basha Naxi minority village and see the local murals. In the afternoon, you will travel to Yunshan Grassland, and take a cable car to the Jade Dragon Mountain, which has snow on its peaks. In the evening, you will fly back to Kunming and check in at a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 12. Tuesday. Kunming/Guiyang. (AB, L, D).
Today, a city tour of Kunming includes the Daguan Mansion, and the Bird and Flower Market. After dinner, you will take the express overnight train to Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou. It is famous for its beautiful scenery and colorful minority customs.
Day 13. Wednesday. Guiyang. (AB, L, D).
You will arrive in Guiyang in the morning and check in at a local four- or five-star hotel. After some refreshment, you will visit several landmark historical sites, including the Jixiu Pavilion and the thousand-year-old Hongfu Temple.
Day 14. Thursday. Guiyang/Anshun/Guiyang. (AB, L, D).
You will drive by deluxe motor coach to Anshun and visit the biggest and most splendid Huangguoshu Waterfall in China. You will also tour the Dragon Palace, one of the most beautiful places in China.
Day 15. Friday. Guiyang/Guilin. (AB, L, D).
Today, you will fly to Guilin, one of the most mystical and picturesque cities in China. You will check in at a local four- or five-star hotel. Then, you will visit the Reed Flute caves where spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations dazzle visitors.
Day 16. Saturday. Guilin/Shanghai. (AB, L, D).
Spend the day today aboard the scenic Li River cruise, passing picturesque farms and fishing villages. You will take a domestic flight to Shanghai in the evening and upon arrival, check in at a local four- or five-star hotel.
Day 17. Sunday. Shanghai. (AB, L, D).
Today you will visit the historic Bund along Shanghai’s waterfront and the shops along Nanjing Road. After that, you will experience the gorgeous Yu Garden and then the fascinating Jade Buddha Temple. In the evening, you will enjoy an entertaining acrobatics show.
Day 18. Monday. Shanghai/US. (AB).
Today you will board your trans-Pacific flight back to the United States. You will take home many wonderful memories of China.
